About Gurudev

Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, humanitarian and spiritual leader, founded Sri Sri Gurukul in 1981 to revive the ancient Gurukul system of learning. His vision is to create a generation rooted in Vedic wisdom while being equipped with modern knowledge, life skills, and confidence to live meaningful lives.

Through his initiatives, Gurudev has inspired millions worldwide with the message of peace, service, and universal human values.

Rigveda

Shaakal

The Rigveda is the most ancient of the four Vedas. Among its 21 branches, the Shaakal, Bashkala & Sankhayayana shakhas survive today — Shaakal is the most widely studied and practiced.

Shukla Yajurveda

Madhyandina

The Madhyandina Shakha is especially prominent across North India, preserving a distinct style of recitation and ritual practice.

Krishna Yajurveda

Taittiriya

The Krishna Yajurveda is revered for its blend of sacred mantras and explanatory prose. The Taittiriya Shakha is the most widely practiced and respected.

Samaveda

Ranayaneeya

The Samaveda is hailed as the "Veda of Music" since its hymns are sung rather than spoken. The Ranayaneeya Shakha is a rare and precious tradition of Samagana.

Shukla Yajurveda

Kanva

The Kanva Shakha is celebrated for its clarity and structured presentation of mantras — one of the oldest surviving branches still actively practiced.

Kauthuma

The Kauthuma Shakha is the most widely practiced branch of the Samaveda and is highly systematized.

Admission Criteria

Age 9–14 years. Must have undergone Upanayana Samskara (Sacred Thread Ceremony). Online interview & physical interview at Gurukul for shortlisted students.

Program Details

Traditional syllabus of 8–10 years (plus 1 year internship), or 5–7 years till Veda Moola. Pathway to Bachelor of Arts in Veda (Shastri-Kramanta).

What Students Receive
